Student Who Accused Former TV3 Talented Kidz Judge of Sexual Harassment Offers Unqualified Apology in Settlement Bid

Anastasia Odametey has moved to settle a defamation case out of court. She previously accused Dr. Benedict Tetteh Yartey of sexual harassment. Her lawyers now offer an unqualified apology to resolve the matter. Dr. Yartey founded British Columbia College and once judged on TV3’s Talented Kidz. Furthermore, veteran broadcaster Johnnie Beresford Hughes made the settlement letter public on October 15, 2026, by sharing it on Facebook.

What the Settlement Letter Says

Samuel Ofosu of Sory and Partners wrote the letter on October 13, 2026. He addressed it to Dame and Partners, who represent Dr. Yartey and the school. The letter carried the marking Without Prejudice. In it, Odametey says she wants to avoid the cost and stress of continued court proceedings. Moreover, her team offers an unqualified apology to the plaintiffs. However, the letter does not confirm any agreement. It also states no financial terms.

Background to the Defamation Case

Dr. Yartey and British Columbia College filed the defamation suit on July 16, 2025. They took the case to the High Court in Accra. The suit arose from a social media video. In it, Odametey accused Dr. Yartey of sexual harassment and repeated inappropriate touching. She was reportedly 17 at the time. Furthermore, Dr. Yartey and the school denied the claims strongly. They described the allegations as false and damaging. In addition, early reports said Odametey’s parents had rejected aspects of her story.

Public Reaction and Current Status

Many Ghanaians reacted strongly after Hughes shared the letter online. Several urged Dr. Yartey to reject the offer and take the case to its end. The High Court case remains active. Moreover, the settlement proposal marks a major shift after more than a year of litigation. As a result, it is still unclear whether the parties will settle privately or continue in court.
