Mahama Cuts Sod for Afienya Industrial Park to Boost Jobs and Exports
President John Mahama has cut sod for the construction of the 1,238-acre Afienya Industrial Park. The park will host more than 120 enterprises and aims to boost manufacturing, attract investment, and create jobs.
The sod-cutting ceremony took place on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Furthermore, the park will provide essential infrastructure including power, water, roads, and waste treatment facilities. These amenities will make it easier for businesses to set up factories and begin production.
Park Responds to Exhausted Space at Tema Export Processing Zone
President Mahama said the Afienya Industrial Park will meet growing investor demand. He noted that available space at the Tema Export Processing Zone had been exhausted. Therefore, the new park fills a critical gap for investors seeking to set up manufacturing operations in Ghana.
Moreover, the President toured some industries in the enclave after the sod-cutting. He said the government is intentional about unlocking growth opportunities, opening up industries, and creating more employment for Ghanaians.
New Economy Programme to Fund Industrial Park Infrastructure
President Mahama linked the Afienya Industrial Park to the government’s proposed $10 billion New Economy Programme. He said the programme, which begins next year, will support infrastructure development at the park.
Furthermore, the investment aims to expand production, reduce imports, and increase exports. As a result, the Afienya Industrial Park forms a key part of the government’s broader economic transformation agenda under the New Economy blueprint.
