Andrew and Tristan Tate Arrested in US as UK Charges Rise to 59
Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate have been arrested in the United States. British authorities issued 38 new charges against the pair. This brings the total number of UK charges against the Tate brothers to 59. The US Marshals confirmed the arrests to the BBC.
What Are the New Charges?
The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced the new charges. Andrew Tate, 39, faces seven further counts of rape. He also faces charges relating to sex trafficking and indecent images of a child. Tristan Tate, 37, faces two counts of rape. He also faces three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The alleged offending took place between July 2010 and August 2017.
Total Charges Against the Tate Brothers
Andrew now faces a total of 42 charges in the UK. Tristan faces 17. The total number of alleged victims in the case has risen to seven. Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Special Crime Division at the CPS, confirmed this. Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Police described the investigation as complex.
What Happens Next
Following the arrests, prosecutors will begin extradition proceedings. The brothers are dual British-US citizens. A US Department of Justice spokesperson confirmed the arrests were pursuant to extradition proceedings. Their lawyer Joseph McBride described the charges as a political hit. He insisted the brothers are innocent and vowed they would walk free.
