Woman Charged Over GH¢675,000 Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment Scam

A 41-year-old ward assistant, Patience Mbaye, has appeared before an Accra court. She faces charges over an alleged Ghana Armed Forces recruitment scam. She is accused of collecting GH¢675,000 from 26 victims. The money was collected under the pretence of securing their recruitment into the GAF.

How the Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment Scam Worked

Prosecutor Inspector Frank Morgan Dorvi told the court that Mbaye acted with Ex-Senior Warrant Officer Jeffery Naboung. Naboung is currently at large. He allegedly collected GH¢1,005,000 from 47 persons under the same pretence. Both have been jointly charged with conspiracy to commit crime and three counts of defrauding by false pretences. Ali later informed his sister about the opportunity. Fatima also became interested after hearing about it. She contacted Mbaye by telephone to verify the arrangement. Mbaye assured Fatima that she and Naboung had helped several people gain military recruitment before.

How the Money Was Collected

Mbaye directed Ali to pay GH¢25,000 into a bank account provided by Naboung. Both Mbaye and Naboung collected their respective sums through their GCB Bank accounts. Victims paid in hopes of securing recruitment into the GAF. However, the duo failed to secure any recruitment for any of the victims. Despite demands for refunds, no money was returned. The matter was subsequently reported to the Police for investigations.

Court Ruling and Next Steps

Mbaye pleaded not guilty in court. She was admitted to bail of GH¢100,000 with three justified sureties. One surety must be a public servant. She must also report to the case investigator every Wednesday and Friday. The case has been adjourned to July 27, 2026.
