President John Dramani Mahama has inspected two newly built Community-Based Health Planning and Services compounds to kick off his Resetting Ghana tour of the Ahafo Region. The two facilities are located in the farming communities of Ahyiaem and Nsuapemkrom in the Tano North Municipality.
]Furthermore, both facilities are fully equipped with medical supplies and residential staff quarters. President Mahama told chiefs and residents at brief durbars that the projects form part of a broader policy to expand universal access to healthcare across Ghana.
DACF Uncapped to Fund CHPS Compounds Across All Districts
President Mahama revealed that the two CHPS compounds were built from proceeds of the District Assemblies Common Fund. He said as a policy he has directed all MMDCEs to construct two CHPS compounds, two classroom blocks, and a 24-hour economy market in their respective districts.
Moreover, he said the projects are a direct result of his administration’s decision to uncap the District Assemblies Common Fund and disburse 80 percent of funds directly to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies. Therefore, funds are going directly to communities rather than being centralized in Accra.
Free Treatment for All Patients at CHPS Compounds
President Mahama assured residents that all patients visiting the CHPS compounds will receive free treatment under the Free Primary Healthcare Programme. In addition, the Dormaahemaa, Odeneho Dr. Akosua Fima Dwaben II, thanked the President at the Ahyiaem inspection for bringing vital development initiatives to the area.
The projects are seen as a significant step toward improving healthcare access in rural and farming communities across the Ahafo Region.
