University of Ghana Orders Students with CGPA Below 1.00 to Withdraw
The University of Ghana has directed undergraduate students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average below 1.00 to withdraw from their programmes. This follows the end of the 2025/2026 academic year. The Academic Affairs Directorate posted the notice on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The directive follows Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017). Furthermore, students must attain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 to qualify for progression to the next level.
No Provision for Academic Probation at UG
The University of Ghana does not offer academic probation. The Academic Affairs Directorate made this clear in its notice. Therefore, any student whose CGPA falls below 1.00 after grade release must withdraw. The university applies this rule once all grades enter the system. Moreover, the regulations allow no exceptions. As a result, affected students must act quickly to begin the withdrawal process.
How Affected Students Can Initiate Withdrawal
Affected students must first check their CGPA on the MIS Web portal. They must then log in to the Student and Staff Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services. Students should use their Student ID and PIN to access the portal. They must then select the Withdrawal Request option to begin the process. However, some schools and departments will initiate the withdrawal on behalf of their students. In addition, students who need clarification should contact their College Academic Office. The university’s Careers and Counselling Directorate will also provide support and guidance to all affected students.
