Obuasi SHTS to Reopen to Continuing Students Next Week — GES
The Ghana Education Service has announced that continuing students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School are expected to return to school next week. The school was temporarily closed to continuing students on August 5, 2026, following disturbances on campus. GES Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi signed a press release on Thursday, October 22, 2026, confirming that preparations are far advanced for the resumption of academic work. Furthermore, first-year students had already reported to the school on September 18, 2026, and were attending classes.
Closure Linked to Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Headmaster
The temporary closure of Obuasi SHTS followed campus disturbances reportedly linked to tensions surrounding sexual abuse allegations against the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai. The GES has suspended the headmaster while the police have forwarded the case docket to the Office of the Attorney-General for study and advice.
Moreover, the allegations have involved as many as 19 students according to previous reports. The allegations remain subject to investigation and the legal process. Therefore, the school’s reopening comes as authorities continue to handle the matter through proper legal channels.
No Specific Return Date Announced Yet
The GES press release did not announce a specific date for the return of continuing students. The Service said only that the return would happen sometime next week. Furthermore, it assured the public that further updates would be communicated when necessary. The planned reopening will allow continuing students to resume academic work after more than two months away from school. As a result, parents and students of Obuasi SHTS are advised to follow official GES communications for the confirmed return date.
