The Gender Equity Committee Secretariat of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO), has organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for Human Resource Management (HRM) Directors and Gender Desk Officers from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Accra. The workshop, held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and promote the effective implementation of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024 (Act 1121).
Delivering the keynote address, Ghana’s Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, underscored the importance of the Act in promoting equal opportunities and addressing gender disparities in leadership, governance, and decision-making across the country. She stressed that the successful implementation of the Act requires the commitment and collaboration of all MDAs, adding that MoGCSP has developed and shared a standardised reporting template to ensure consistency in data collection and submission. Furthermore, she called on the officers to serve as champions of gender mainstreaming within their respective institutions.
Also speaking at the workshop, MoGCSP Chief Director Dr. Marian W. A. Kpakpah commended the ILO for its contributions and encouraged participants to actively share institutional experiences and identify practical pathways for implementing the Act. Meanwhile, ILO National Project Coordinator Mr. Gideon Mankralo urged the officers to work collectively to fully realise the objectives of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, reaffirming the ILO’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s gender equality efforts through technical assistance and strategic partnerships.
At the close of the workshop, MoGCSP Human Resource Management Director Madam Vida Owusua Mensah, speaking on behalf of participants, expressed appreciation to the Ministry and the ILO for the timely initiative. She pledged that participants would champion the implementation of the Act within their respective institutions and commit to promoting gender-responsive policies and inclusive development practices across the public sector.
