Gender Ministry Expresses Grief, Activates Aid for Victims of Volta Lake Disaster

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed deep grief following the deadly boat accident on the Volta Lake that claimed several lives, including women and children, with others still missing.

In a statement from its Public Affairs Unit, the Minister, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, extended condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the Ministry, describing the incident as a painful national tragedy.

She assured affected families that government support will be made available in the aftermath of the disaster. The Minister further directed the Department of Social Welfare to work closely with district authorities to reach out to survivors and families of victims without delay.

According to the Ministry, the response will include psychosocial support and an assessment of the immediate needs of affected households, aimed at reducing the hardship caused by the incident.

MoGCSP also emphasized the need for strict adherence to water transport safety measures. Boat operators and passengers have been urged to comply fully with safety protocols to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable groups, noting that steps are being taken to ensure all affected persons receive the necessary care and assistance.
