Bawumia Will Win 2028 Presidential Election Regardless of NDC Flagbearer — Fatimatu Abubakar
Former Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar has declared that New Patriotic Party flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will win the 2028 presidential election. She said this would happen regardless of whoever the National Democratic Congress presents as its flagbearer. Ms Abubakar made the prediction on Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, October 24, 2026. She based her comments on what she described as the failings of the current NDC administration and the strong record of the previous NPP government. Furthermore, she expressed full confidence that Dr Bawumia’s candidacy would prevail in the next general election.
NDC’s Free Speech Crackdown Will Cost Votes — Kpebu
Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, also on the Key Points panel, said the NDC would win the 2028 election but with a drastically reduced vote share. He attributed the growing disaffection with President John Dramani Mahama to the government’s crackdown on free speech. Moreover, he argued that Ghanaians deeply value free expression and would not forgive any administration that tampered with it. “Clamping down on free speech is what has done the President in. Ghanaians like free speech; the moment you touch free speech, they won’t forgive you,” he said. Therefore, while he predicted an NDC victory, he warned that their votes would drop drastically compared to the 2024 general elections.
NDC Will Miss Asiedu Nketiah’s Institutional Memory — Hamza
NDC Communications Team Member Hamza Suhuyini acknowledged that the party would miss outgoing National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who is not seeking re-election. He said Mr Nketiah’s value to the party goes beyond experience and extends to deep institutional memory that is difficult to replace. However, he assured supporters that the NDC was doing everything possible to fill the vacuum. In addition, he expressed confidence that the NDC’s record in government would secure victory at the polls in 2028. The NDC closed nominations for its 2026 National Executive Elections on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, with 137 prospective aspirants picking up nomination forms to contest 14 positions. As a result, the filing of completed nomination forms is scheduled for November 7 to 9, 2026, at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra.
