Ghanaian MP OK Frimpong to Face Extradition Hearing in the Netherlands Next Month
Asante Akyem North Member of Parliament Ohene Kwame Frimpong, popularly known as OK Frimpong, is scheduled to appear before a Dutch court for an extradition hearing on November 18, 2026. The Ghanaian lawmaker has been in custody in Amsterdam since his arrest at Schiphol Airport on May 10, 2026, shortly after arriving from Ghana. Furthermore, he is being held under a United States extradition request linked to allegations of romance scams and money laundering. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Two Bail Applications Rejected by Dutch Authorities
Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor confirmed the November 18 extradition hearing date in a recent interview. He disclosed that two bail applications filed on Frimpong’s behalf — one substantive and one on appeal — have both been rejected by Dutch authorities. Moreover, he confirmed that the MP remains in the custody of the Dutch government in Amsterdam. Therefore, OK Frimpong will face the extradition hearing while still in detention with no bail granted.
Parliament and Foreign Affairs Ministry Providing Support
Ghana’s Parliament has indicated it is preparing for the substantive hearing and plans to issue a formal statement on the MP’s status. Furthermore, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been providing consular support to Frimpong through the country’s mission in The Hague since his detention.
As a result, both the legislature and the executive are engaged in supporting the lawmaker as his legal proceedings continue in the Netherlands. The November 18 hearing will be a critical moment in determining whether Frimpong faces extradition to the United States.
