GHS to Vaccinate Girls Aged 9-14 Against HPV in Schools Nationwide
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will run a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign in schools. The exercise targets girls aged 9 to 14 who have not yet received the vaccine. It aims to protect them against cervical cancer and other diseases linked to the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
When Will the HPV Vaccination Take Place?
The GHS will hold two rounds of the HPV vaccination in schools:
- First round: Monday, October 19, to Friday, October 23, 2026
- Second round: Monday, November 30, to Friday, December 4, 2026

How the Exercise Will Work
Health workers will visit schools across the country. They will give the HPV vaccine to eligible girls aged 9 to 14 who have not yet received it.
The GHS is running the exercise with the Ghana Education Service (GES) through the School Health Education Programme (SHEP) and its partners. It falls under the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation (PIRI).
The Director-General of the GHS, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, signed the statement announcing the campaign.
Goals of the Campaign
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the routine HPV vaccine. It also seeks to improve vaccination uptake. Furthermore, it will strengthen efforts to protect girls against diseases linked to HPV infection.
GHS Appeals for Cooperation
The GHS has called on parents, guardians, teachers, school authorities and community leaders to cooperate with the health teams. The Service said this support will help the exercise succeed. In addition, it said the collaboration will safeguard the health and well-being of children across the country.
