Education Minister Orders Suspension of Obuasi SHS Headmaster Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct
The Obuasi SHS headmaster suspension follows allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student. The Minister of Education has ordered the immediate suspension of Zakaria Abdulai, Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
JoyNews Investigation Prompts Directive
The Ministry of Education announced the decision in a statement. It said the action followed an investigation by JoyNews and journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni. The investigation looked into the allegations against the headmaster.
GES Told to Act, CID to Investigate
According to the Ministry, the Minister instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to suspend Mr Abdulai immediately. The suspension will last until a full investigation ends. Additionally, the Minister asked the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to begin its own investigation.
Ministry Restates Zero Tolerance Stance
The Ministry and the GES restated their zero tolerance for such alleged misconduct in any educational institution. Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry’s Press Secretary, signed the statement. Furthermore, the statement stressed that parents and guardians entrust their children to teachers. It said teachers must protect and safeguard these children, not abuse them.
Suspension Allows Investigations to Proceed
The Ministry said the suspension will allow investigations into the allegations to proceed. However, the allegations against Mr Abdulai remain unproven.
